Dakota Blue
Dakota Blue Richards (born 11 April 1994) is an English actress from England. At 13 years old, she made her film debut in The Golden Compass as Lyra Belacqua, the main character. Other leading roles include the unruly teenager April in Dustbin Baby and Maria in the 2009 film The Secret of Moonacre. In 2011 she was Franky Fitzgerald, the third generation cast of the British teenager drama Skins. She has been in roles on film, television and the stage. Richards was born at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road, London. The family relocated to Sussex, where she attended Newlands School. After having attended St Paul's Primary School, she attended Blatchington Mill School, Hove and KBis Theatre School, Brighton. She later said she was interested in playing Lyra. Ten thousand people applied for the auditions. Philip Pullman, the author of the series, said that "As soon I saw Dakota's screen-test I realized that my search was done." Chris Weitz, the director who directed the film, said Richards "made what should have been an extremely difficult decision quite easy.
